Halal Certification

Halal certification that stands up to a question.

What halal certification is, what it proves, why manufacturers certify with NAFAH, and which products and services we certify.

What certification is

Three things have to hold at once.

A product is halal when every ingredient and processing aid is permissible, anything of animal origin comes from a permitted species slaughtered correctly, and the product is not contaminated by non-halal material at any point in manufacture, storage or transport.

Certification tests all three. We review the formulation down to sub-ingredients and processing aids, we visit the site and walk the line, and we keep checking during the twelve-month cycle. The result is a numbered certificate with a product annex, issued the day the decision is made.

See the seven-stage process

Ingredients

Every material classified as halal, not halal, or requires evidence, with the exact supplier declaration to request.

Process

Slaughter, segregation, cleaning and changeover controls checked in person against a published audit protocol.

Handling

Storage, transport and contract packing kept inside the scope, with traceability run forwards and backwards.

Why NAFAH

Four commitments we can be held to

Written before applied

Nothing is decided informally. If a requirement is not in the published standard, it is not a requirement.

Separated decisions

The auditor reports; a certification committee decides. No one signs off on their own audit.

Open to checking

Every certificate states its scope, standard and status, and can be checked against our record. So can suspensions; the uncomfortable ones are the ones that matter.

Scholarly oversight

Technical assessments are reviewed against rulings issued by our Shariah advisory board, not improvised at audit.

What we certify

Sectors and product groups

Most files fall into one of these seven groups. Food service, catering, logistics and contract packing are certified under the same standard series.

Certification routes

Choose the route that matches how you manufacture

Site & product certification

The standard route. A named facility and a defined product list are audited and certified for twelve months, with surveillance inside the cycle.

  • Ingredient and processing-aid review
  • On-site audit of production, storage and sanitation
  • Annual certificate with a published product annex

Batch & consignment certificates

For exporters who need a document tied to a specific shipment: lot numbers, quantities, container and destination, issued against an active site certificate.

  • Per-shipment attestation letters
  • Lot traceability referenced to the production record
  • Typically issued within one working day

Co-manufacturing & private label

Brand owners without a plant are certified through their co-manufacturer, with the certificate in the brand owner’s name and scoped to their SKUs.

  • Brand-owner certificates at a contracted site
  • Multi-site scopes for split production
  • Clear separation of what each party controls

Ingredient & raw material assessment

For ingredient houses and distributors: materials assessed and listed so your customers’ certification bodies accept them without re-opening the file.

  • Material-level halal status determinations
  • Carriers, solvents and processing aids assessed
  • Reusable supplier declaration templates

Integrated & combined audits

Where you already hold GMP, SQF, BRC or organic certification, we schedule alongside them so your team hosts one visit instead of three.

  • Shared opening and closing meetings
  • Documentation requested once
  • Reduced audit days where evidence overlaps

Training & internal capability

Halal awareness for production staff, internal halal auditor training for QA, and slaughter supervision training for meat plants.

  • Half-day plant awareness sessions
  • Internal halal auditor course with assessment
  • Slaughterman and supervisor competency training

Using the mark

Licensed with the certificate, not sold with it.

The mark may only appear on products listed in the certificate scope. Artwork is approved before printing, the certificate number appears wherever the mark is used in trade documentation, and use stops immediately if a certificate expires, is suspended or is withdrawn.

Misuse is treated as a major non-conformity and, where a certificate has ended, as a matter we pursue.
